History of FAGLOV

Farmers Global Village  (FAGLOV) recognized that the farm economy of Nigeria was in decline.  In order to turn the curve on this worrisome trend, FAGLOV began seeking ideas and solutions from a diverse group of stakeholders and community members. Even individual farmers, committed themselves to addressing this essential question: “How can we ensure viable farms in the future?

From its inception, FAGLOV was dedicated to developing clear strategies and implementing concerted efforts in order to maintain the agriculture, rural character, and working landscape in the Nigeria at large.

Farmers Global Village is deeply embedded in our community. Our programs are designed to be responsive to the needs of both the farmers and broader community members in Nigeria. We influence the way local food is valued, how people find it, and who benefits from it.

Our Activities

FAGLOV is currently operating from Asaba and its environs where over two hundred acres of fertile land has been accessed for cluster farming. As part of efforts to replace subsisting farming with commercial agriculture, the organization has introduced cluster farming initiative where between seven and ten crops, animals, herbs, vegetables, and agro allied industries will be planted. This innovation is a goal set to boost food production and diversify the national economic base. FAGLOV  has adopted cluster farming as  strong strategy to teach the youth, women, poor, and rich the importance of going back to farm.

Our Strategy

We will have our farms strategized in every state and local government areas. In every farm, we will decide the kind of crops, animals, herbs etc to be invested in. Our decision will be based on their climate, environment and interest. For instance, in farm “A” we may decide to plant: palm trees, plantains, cassava, banana, oranges, paw-paw, tomatoes, groundnuts, cocoa, rice, rubber, wheat, etc. In another section of the land the following animals will be reared pigs, grass cutters, goats, birds, fishes, cows, snails, etc.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Herbs and vegetables will be cultivated in other section : Aloe Vera, bitter leaves, scent leaves, pumpkin, Green, Ginger, water melon, cucumber, etc.
